Sacred Splendor! A Beautiful Complete Set of Zhitomir Machzorim - Zhitomir 1864. - A complete, original set of Zhitomir Machzorim, printed by the Shapiro Brothers in Zhitomir, 1864. Nusach Ashkenaz, according to the Minhag of Reisin, Lita, Poland, Bohemia and Mehrin. Each volume is bound in its original binding with gilt decorations, and is printed on crisp, white paper. I t is extremely rare to find an original complete set in such pristine condition! In excellent, like-new condition with some light foxing, typical of 19th century books. Spines newly rebacked in leather and gilt decoration. Vol I - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Zhitomir 1864. 164 (328) pp. 27.5 cm. Vol II - Shalosh Regalim, Zhitomir 1864. 152 (304) pp. 27.5 cm. Zhitomir imprints, like those of Slavita, have long been favored by Chassidim and their Rebbes, and remain in high demand till today. It is believed that Zhitomir and Slavuta imprints bring blessing into one’s household since they were crafted with utmost Holiness and purity. In addition, they are also well-known for their quality, black letterpress font - an uncommon printing feat in the early 19th century. During their prime, the Shapiro family press was cherished and respected by all, and was undoubtedly one of the leading Jewish printing presses throughout the Russian Empire.
