Sefer Bechinos Olam, Zhitomir 1858. - Sefer Bechinos Olam, a comprehensive philosophical work authored by R. Yedaya Hapenini, also known as Yedaya Bedarsi (c. 1270-c. 1340).  Bechinos Olam is a collection of poems that reflect on the nature of existence and the mysteries of the universe. R. Yedaya Bedarsi lived in the 12th century, and was a Sephardic rabbi and philosopher who is known for his deep contemplation on the nature of God and the human experience. It was written in circa 1306, after the Jews were expelled from France. His poetry is characterized by its depth and lyrical beauty, and it has been widely studied and admired. This edition includes the commentary of the R. Yom Tov Lipmann Heller – The Tosafos Yom Tov. He first printed his commentary anonymously in 1598, however in the Sefer Yosef Da’as it was later revealed (Prague, 1609), that it was none other than The Tosafos Yom Tov who authored this commentary.  Printed at the press of R. Aryeh Leib Shapiro, grandson of R. Moshe Shapiro of Slavita. Rare.  Zhitomir imprints, like those of Slavita, have long been favored by Chassidim and their Rebbes, and remain in high demand till today. It is believed that Zhitomir and Slavuta imprints bring blessing into one’s household since they were crafted with utmost Holiness and purity. In addition, they are also well-known for their quality, black letterpress font - an uncommon printing feat in the early 19th century. During their prime, the Shapiro family press was cherished and respected by all, and was undoubtedly one of the leading Jewish printing presses throughout the Russian Empire.
