A Rare Classic: Sefer Meshech Chochma - R. Meir Simcha of Dvinsk, Riga 1927. First Edition. - A complete copy of the celebrated Meshech Chochma, first printed edition. Authored by R. Meir Simcha HaKohen of Dvinsk (1843-1926), a foremost leader of Lithuanian Jewry in the 19th and early 20th century. Meshech Chochma, an ethical commentary on the Torah, has been immensely popular ever since its release and remains a most fundamental work, especially in the Yeshiva world. Most famous are R. Meir Simcha’s seemingly prophetic words written in Parshas Bechukosai, where he beamons the spiritual state of the Jewish people at the time. He comments how the people of the time believed “Berlin is Jerusalem'' and were obsessed with being highly educated, fluent in the German language and fully integrated into German society. He comments how this will only lead to destruction, which we unfortunately witnessed some 10 years later. Rare; unrecorded in Vinograd. Bound in a new binding. 217 (434) pp. Stefansky Hebrew Classics 30.
