Bidspirit auction | Haggadah Shel Pesach - Passover

Haggadah Shel Pesach - Passover Haggadah, Offenbach 1800. A Special Copy with Colorful Illustrations. - A complete copy of the Passover Haggadah, printed at Offenbach in 1800. With Judeo-German translation. This edition contains several woodcuts featuring various Passover scenes; in this copy we are privy to all illustrations being hand-colored and vibrant. Rare.  In very good-excellent condition, bound in original binding. Light stains, including wine stains, as commonly found in Haggadot. Previous ownership inscriptions seen on flyleaf, including ”Yehuda Leib Mintz of Offenbach”, as well as ”Karl Wahlskahl -- Passover 1937”. This inscription is highly significant as it attests to a proud Jewish ownership of the Haggadah acquired during the height of Hitler's rule. Kristallnacht occurred only a mere 18 months later, so perhaps this was one of the last Passovers during which the Haggadah was used.  19cm., 40 pp.  Vinograd, Offenbach 144. See also: Yaari, Otzar HaHagadot, who lists 18 similar Offenbach variants, see also no. 428; this specific edition is not listed there.
