Sefer Mashal HaKadmoni - Sefer HaTapuach, Frankfurt an der Oder 1799. With Dozens of Striking Woodcut Illustrations.

Sefer Mashal HaKadmoni was authored by 13th century Rabbi and Kabbalist Issac Ibn Sahula (b. 1244). In it, he aims to express various philosophical ideas and arguments using a large collection of fables, parables and tales. Dialogues and arguments are conducted by various animals who express their “opinions”.

First published in Brescia in 1493, this work was met with high acclaim and reprinted dozens of times, each time with close to 80 unique illustrative woodcuts depicting the many dialogues which take place throughout. In this particular Frankfurt ed., many new, updated woodcuts were added.

Bound with “Sefer HaTapuach”, a philosophical work attributed to Aristotle. Separate title pages for each work.

In overall very good condition. A large tear seen on pp. 11, now repaired with no significant loss to text.

[1], 3, [1], 100 pp. (Mispaginated).

Vinograd, Frankfurt an der Oder 471.
