Classic: Sefer Maginei Shlomo, First Edition. Amsterdam 1715.

Sefer Maginei Shlomo was written by R. Yehoshua, Rosh Av Beis Din of Krakow. The purpose of his work was to answer the questions of Tosafos on Rashi, hence the name 'Shields of Shlomo'. In the introduction it is written that the author related to his disciples how Rashi himself appeared to him in his dream, and personally expressed his great happiness for his work. He said the following: "Fortunate are you in this [world] and good for you in the next [world]. Because you save me from the lions' mouths – the great Baalei Tosafos, I will personally come to greet you in the next world with all my students". This great work has since become a classical work accepted by all. The author was the Grandfather of the 'Pnei Yehoshua', and is frequently quoted by him. The 'Pnei Yehoshua' writes in his introduction that although he had not yet seen his grandfather's work (at the time his work was first printed), he had surely heard of it. Due to his Grandfather's work, he decided to follow in his footsteps and style his own 'Pnei Yehoshua' after that of his Grandfather's 'Maginei Shlomo'.
