J.A. Stanton Southwest Landscape Oil on Canvas - John Aloysius Stanton (American, 1857-1929). Oil on canvas painting depicting a lone Native American figure seated against a vast Southwest landscape featuring bluffs and desert plains. Signed along the lower right. Height: 14 1/4 in x width: 10 1/4 in x depth: 3/4 in. Condition: There are no tears. There are small losses to the pigment along the lower extreme edge; there are additional losses to the pigment scattered throughout the work. Craquelure throughout. Stretcher bar marks are visible, particularly near the upper, left, and right edges. Along the upper left quadrant, there is a small loss to the pigment, and the canvas appears to have been partially punctured. Scattered areas of inpainting, particularly near the figure and mountain landscape. Small area of flaking to the pigment along the upper right quadrant. Some wear along the extreme edges of the canvas; the work is not framed. Soiling and evidence of moisture exposure, particularly a tide line along the lower edge, along the verso.
