19th c. Grand Tour Oil on Cavas Landscape Painting - Grand Tour oil on canvas painting, ca. 19th century. Depicting a classical, romanticized landscape, featuring ancient Roman or Greek ruins with lush trees and a gathering of figures. With a toned paper label adhered along the verso reading ”M.C.B.B.” Unframed; height: 20 1/2 in x width: 26 1/2 in. Framed; height: 27 in x width: 32 1/2 in x depth: 2 3/4 in. Condition: The colors are somewhat muted. There are no visible tears or losses. Craquelure throughout. The canvas has possibly been relined. A thick varnish has been applied along the work; due to the varnish, it is difficult to discern whether there are areas of inpainting. Soiling along the verso. Wear to the frame, including separation to the joints, small chips, and losses. Felt tabs affixed along the verso of the frame.
