Hugh Bolton Jones Seascape Oil on Board - Hugh Bolton Jones (American, 1848-1927). Oil on board painting depicting a coastal seascape. Featuring a small white cottage with a red roof nestled along a sloped, tree-covered riverbank. Signed along the lower right. With an incised metal plaque affixed along the lower border of the frame bearing artist attribution. Sight; height: 10 in x width: 16 1/4 in. Framed; height: 17 1/2 in x width: 24 in x depth: 2 3/4 in. Condition: No major splits, cracks, or breaks. No evidence of inpainting under UV light inspection. The varnish is toned. There is craquelure. Scattered, minute losses to the pigment throughout. Foam board strips have been added between the board and the frame, visible along the verso; possibly added to prevent the board from shifting and rubbing against the frame. There are numerous nail holes along the upper center and each sides of the frame along the verso. Wear to the frame, including losses to the gilt and slight separation to the joints. Work not inspected out of frame.
