Nepali Carved Stone Avalokitesvara Stele - Ancient Nepali carved stone relief stele depicting Buddhist deity Avalokitesvara, the bodhisattva of infinite compassion, also referred to as Padmapani or the Lotus-Bearer, 10th century. Flanked by praying attendants along either side. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 27 in x width: 14 in x depth: 3 1/2 in. Condition: There is a repair to the lower background where a large piece has been reattached. Some small chips, losses, and accretions throughout. Large losses to the background behind the head.
