Pr Chinese Parcel-Gilt & Red Lacquer Side Cabinets - Pair of Chinese parcel-gilt and red lacquered wooden side cabinets, 20th century. Each featuring two doors decorated with figures in exterior scenes. One depicting elegant court ladies gathered in a garden setting, the other similarly decorated with young boys playing in a garden. Atop rectangular stands with squat, square legs. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Each) height: 27 in x width: 29 in x depth: 16 in. Condition: One of the chests is structurally sound and stable; the other chest wobbles slightly. There are several horizontal and vertical splits forming along the upper surface and back splat of each chest. There are areas of crazing, flaking, and large losses to the lacquer, particularly along the extreme edges and lower edges of the doors. The interior of each chest is lined with gilt paper; there are signs of moisture exposure, undulation, and peeling to the lining. There are some chips varying in size from small to large along the extreme edges and corners of each. Wear and some losses to the gilt elements. Verdigris patination and tarnishing to the metal components. Some wear to the feet.
