Salvador Dali ”Whoever Takes Carmen” Lithograph - Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989). Lithograph print on paper titled ”Whoever Takes Carmen Away Must Pay With His Life, ” from the ”Carmen Suite” inspired by Georges Bizet’s 1875 opera ”Carmen, ” 1979. Depicting an oversized dagger dominating the composition, with deep red blood dripping down the blade and slicing across the landscape. Below the dagger, figures portray Act III's fierce duel between Don Jose and Escamillo, with Carmen pleading nearby for peace. Pencil signed along the lower right; editioned ”W/J” along the lower left. With an inked inscription along the verso listing artist name, title, date, and edition. Reference: Field 70-1-Q. Sight; height: 25 1/2 in x width: 19 3/4 in. Framed; height: 32 3/4 in x width: 26 3/4 in x depth: 1 1/2 in. Condition: There are no tears or losses. There is a crease along the lower right corner. Scattered areas of light soiling and foxing. Light wear along the extreme, deckled edges, including light creases. Floated in frame atop a nonacidic mat. Framed under plexiglass. Light wear to the frame. Not inspected out of frame.
