Kappel Abstract Still Life Oil Painting - Hugh Kappel (American, 1910-1982). Oil on canvas painting depicting an abstracted still life, possibly an interior scene with stringed instruments in the foreground, 1947. Signed lower right. Further signed along the verso. Ink-stamped ”The Estate of Hubert Kappel” along the verso. Reference: “Hugh Kappel Paintings: 1936-1976,” Birdsall-Haase Gallery, 2011, pg. 20. Kappel was one of the founding members of the New York Abstract Expressionist movement. He exhibited at both the seminal 9th Street Show and the following Stable Gallery Show. Sight; height: 22 in x width: 29 in. Framed; height: 2 3/4 in x width: 31 1/2 in x depth: 2 1/4 in. Condition: The colors are bold and bright. There are no major tears or losses. Some soiling to the verso. Light wear to the frame.
