Charles Biederman ”New York, April 1935” Gouache - Charles Biederman (American, 1906-2004). Gouache on paper painting titled ”Untitled, New York, April 1935,” 1935. Depicting an abstract, biomorphic composition featuring fluid white and black forms against a vibrant red ground. Reflecting the artist's mid-1930s transition from early geometric styles toward experimental fluid shapes, heavily influenced by the modern masters, Joan Miro and Jean Arp, he encountered in Paris. Pencil signed and dated along the lower right. With a Menconi & Schoelkopf Gallery, New York, label adhered along the verso bearing artist attribution, date, title, medium, and no. 39.729. Sight; height: 13 3/4 in x width: 10 in. Framed; height: 23 1/2 in x width: 21 in x depth: 2 in. Condition: The colors are bold and bright. There are no visible tears, losses, or signs of repair. Light wear along the extreme edges and corners, where there are scattered minute frits to the paint. Floated in frame atop a non-acidic mat. Framed under plexiglass. Light wear to the frame.
