George Rodrigue ”Colorful Blue Dog” Print - George Rodrigue (American, 1944-2013). Serigraph print on paper titled ”Colorful Blue Dog.” Featuring a seated blue dog with striking yellow eyes against a bold yellow, green, and pink abstract background. Ink signed along the lower left; numbered 20/90 along the lower right. Beginning in the 1990s Rodrigue created the ”Blue Dog” series in memoriam of his dog Tiffany. As a native of Louisiana, he was influenced by the Cajun loup-garou (rougarou) legend rooted in French werewolf myths. According to the legend, the terrifying beast is half-man and half-wolf and stalks the deep swamps, bayous, and sugar cane fields of South Louisiana. Rodrigue's ”Blue Dog” paintings, based on the Cajun legend, catapulted him to worldwide fame becoming part of Absolut Vodka's national ad campaigns in 1992. Sight; height: 31 1/2 in x width: 23 in.
