Otto Henry Schneider ”France” Painting - Otto Henry Schneider (American, 1865-1950). Oil on canvas laid board impressionist landscape painting titled ”France, ” early 20th century. Depicting a woman working in her field accompanied by her young child in the foreground. Featuring rustic homes shrouded in lush, green trees and a church steeple along the background. Signed and titled along the lower left. With an inscription along the verso reading ”France, Merry Christmas from Mrs. Otto Schneider to F. Wood 1958.” With two Christie's labels adhered along the verso of the frame. Born in Muscatine, Iowa, Otto Henry Schneider began his formal art education at 15 at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), studying under John Vanderpoel and Oliver Dennett Grover. He continued his training at the Art Students’ League of Buffalo, New York, before traveling to Paris to study at the Academie Julian. Early in his career, Schneider, was heavily influenced by Dutch and French painting scenes. However, later on he adopted a brighter palette as he embraced Impressionism. This work portrays his love of French pastoral scenes, whilst capturing the beginning of his transition into a brighter, impressionist style. Sight; height: 24 1/2 in x width: 29 1/2 in. Framed; height: 32 in x width: 36 1/2 in x depth: 2 in. Condition: The painting is in good condition overall. The canvas has been mounted onto a board. There is scattered retouching visible under UV along the middle, upper portion of the sky and along the tree on the right. The frame has wear and some losses to the gilding.
