Abraham Leon Kroll ”October” Painting 1921 - Abraham Leon Kroll (American, 1884-1974). Oil on canvas landscape painting titled ”October, ” 1921. Featuring a vibrant autumnal field of golden, yellow grain and orange pumpkins arranged in repeating diagonal rows. Rolling green and purple hills stretch across the horizon under a blue sky filled with white clouds. Signed and dated along the lower right. With several Christie's labels adhered along the verso of the frame. Best known as a painter of figures, especially female nudes, Abraham Kroll also produced a large body of landscapes and still lifes. His public artworks include murals for the Department of Justice Building in Washington, D.C., and his only mosaic work is located on the chapel ceiling at Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Normandy, France. There are a few areas of inpainting along the foliage in the lower left, upper left corner edge, small area in the sky, and the upper right corner along the edge. Some light surface cracks visible in the sky under critical light. The canvas has some soiling along the verso. The frame has wear.
