William Horton ”Outside Naples” Landscape Painting - William Samuel Horton (American, 1865-1936). Oil on board Mediterranean landscape painting titled ”Outside Naples, ” 1906. Depicting an Italian villa garden scene featuring palm trees, towering pines, and lush foliage. A stone balustrade and terrace staircase decorated with ornamental garden urns along the tops of the pillars cuts diagonally across the lower center, creating a sense of movement. Thick, textured impasto brushstrokes bring the vibrant pastel colors to life, beautifully capturing the play of light. Pencil inscription along the verso listing title and date. Label adhered along the upper section of the frame along the verso listing title and date. William Horton was a close friend and collaborator of Claude Monet during his time in Paris, where he devoted his life to exploring the principles of Impressionism. While deeply influenced by Monet’s ideas, Horton developed a distinctive artistic vision of his own.
