Theresa Bernstein ”Beach at Gloucester” Painting - Theresa Ferber Bernstein (American, 1890-2002). Oil on board expressionist painting titled ”Beach at Gloucester, ” circa 1915. Depicting a dynamic group of beachgoers, consistent with Bernstein's lifelong fascination with public leisure spaces. Featuring thick, dramatic impasto brushstrokes and a darker color palette with a bold, vibrant splash of red along the flags. With an inscription along the verso reading ”Beach at Gloucester by Theresa Bernstein painted c. 1915. Acquired directly from the artist.” With a label from Arvest Galleries adhered along the upper section of the frame along the verso; also with a Vose Galleries of Boston label adhered along the verso listing artist and title. Provenance: Arvest Galleries, Boston, MA, November 23, 1988; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Unframed; height: 9 in x width: 11 1/2 in. Framed; height: 14 in x width: 16 3/4 in x depth: 2 in. Condition: The painting is in good condition overall. The corners of the board are rounded. There is a small, 1/6” area of restoration along the lower middle quadrant. The verso has some soiling, and the frame has wear.
