Jane Peterson ”Blossoming Apple Tree” Painting - Jane Peterson (American, 1876-1965). Watercolor and gouache on paper impressionist landscape painting titled ”Blossoming Apple Tree, ” early 20th century. Featuring a gnarled apple tree with foliage rendered in expressive brushstrokes of soft white and sage green. Surrounding the central mature tree, are younger saplings with bright lime and apple green leaves. The canopies' vibrant colors are accentuated by the muted blues and greens of the forest along the background. Signed along the lower right. With three Christie's labels adhered along the verso. Provenance: Tom Veilleux Gallery, New York; acquired from former by a private collection, 1995; Christie's, New York, NY, ”Fine American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, ” September 27, 2004, Lot 87; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Sight; height: 23 in x width: 17 in. Framed; height: 33 in x width: 26 1/2 in x depth: 2 in. Condition: The painting is in good condition overall. There is a 1/2” tear along the edge of the bottom left. There are some creases along the edges, most notably along the upper left corner, causing a crack in the paint layer. The sheet is hinged to a foamcore back with framers tape along the top corners. The frame has some wear.
