Meissen Hoopoe Bird Figure - Meissen, Germany. After a model by J.J. Kandler. Porcelain model depicting a perched Hoopoe bird on a branch. This example likely late 19th century. Blue crossed swords mark. Provenance: The Meissen Shop, Palm Beach, FL, February 17, 1988; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 12 in x width: 4 in x depth: 8 in. Condition: The beak of the bird has been entirely restored and may be a later addition. The stump-like branch upon which one of the bird's feet rests has been restored - it is likely that this branch was longer at some point. There is a small chip to the base.
