Set 7 Spode Imari 3071 Saucers - Spode, England. Set of seven pattern 3071 ”Imari” porcelain saucers, ca. 1820. Six plates with maker mark in iron red along the underside; all plates with pattern number in iron red. Provenance: The Art Exchange Inc., New York, 1970; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. The Spode Imari pattern was designed to meet the high demand of English consumers who desired the Japanese originals. However, the East India company was barred from importing these goods in 1799. In response, English factories began designing their own iterations to meet the demands of those who sought replacements or for those who simply sought to own the desirable pattern. Spode was among the first to create this pattern ca. 1805. (Each) diameter: 6 in. Condition: There are no chips. There is one saucer with a hairline crack approx. 1 inch in length extending inwards from the rim that has possibly been repaired. No further cracks to the other plates. Light surface wear including some accretions. Very light losses to the gilt, mainly along the extreme edges of the rim. Very light wear to the footrims.
