Of architectural form, featuring a central tall neck flanked by narrow and reticulated handles, surrounded by shorter secondary chambers or ”necks, ” emerging from the bulbous base. With impressed ”Chicago Crucible Co.” stamp along the underside. The Chicago Crucible Company, established in 1917, was an art pottery manufacturer that was acquired by the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company shortly after its founding. Northwestern Terra Cotta had an established producer of architectural tiles and decorative trim since 1878. Production of Chicago Crucible pottery under the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company continued until around 1932, while the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company operated for several more decades before closing in 1965.
