1908 $20 Saint-Gaudens No Motto Wells Fargo MS66 - 1908 No Motto $20 gold Saint-Gaudens Wells Fargo Hoard coin. Graded by PCGS as MS66. Certificate number 01004987. The Wells Fargo hoard was discovered in the early 1990s by dealer Ron Gilio. The hoard is so named because the initial transactions of these coins took place in a Las Vegas Wells Fargo bank. It is the largest hoard of ultra high-quality Saint-Gaudens ever discovered and contained grades MS66 all the way to ten virtually perfect MS69 specimens. According to David Hall, while most other 1908 No Motto Saint-Gaudens have a usual ”ratty” look, the Wells Fargo hoard coins are known for their near-mint quality. The coin was designed by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens (American, 1848-1907). Commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt to reflect America's increasing presence on the forefront of the world stage, it depicts a personification of Liberty on the obverse walking toward the viewer and the reverse with the American bald eagle flying into the sunrise.
