2 Minnesota Creosoting Plant Worker Photos - Group of two antique photographs depicting workers at the Republic Creosoting Company in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. One captioned in negative: ”Still Cleaners and Coke Wheelers, Republic Creosoting Co., St. Louis Park, Minn.” The Republic Creosoting Company moved to St. Louis Park in 1916 after operating in Minneapolis since 1896. It remained in operation for over 65 years until it closed in 1972. While it was in operation the plant had two main functions: the first was the refining of coal tar into distilled byproducts; the second was the treatment of wood with creosote.
