J.J. Audubon "The American Redstart" Print
John James Audubon (French/American, 1785-1851). Large hand-colored aquatint titled "The American Redstart" by Robert Havell Jr. (English/American, 1793-1878). In plate along the upper corners "No. 8" and "Plate 40." Audubon drew the original drawing from which Havell printed, engraved, and hand-colored this plate. Dated 1828 along the lower right.
Sight; height: 20 1/4 in x width: 13 in. Framed; height: 39 in x width: 28 1/2 in x depth: 1 in.
Condition: The colors are bold and bright. There are no major visible tears, losses, or signs of restoration. There is an impression along the perimeter of the print, likely from the plate and original to the artistic process. Housed under a nonacidic mat. Framed under glass, light wear to the frame. Not inspected out of frame.
