Bidspirit auction | Large Yoshida ”Fishing Fleet” Red
Large Yoshida ”Fishing Fleet” Red Jizuri Print - Hiroshi Yoshida (Japanese, 1876-1950). Double oban woodblock print on paper titled ”Return of the Fishing Fleet” depicting boats and figures coming ashore, 1928. Hand-brushed signature along the lower right; titled in pen along the lower left. With an early red jizuri seal along the left margin. The jizuri ”self-printed” seal indicates that the printing process was directly supervised by him and that he played an active role in the creation of this print. These seals were typically reserved for only the highest quality impressions as decided by Yoshida. Though this seal is not the usual bright red as expected in his earliest jizuri prints, the print itself does not contain much red pigment. Additionally, the jizuri seal color matches that of the red seal in the lower right below Yoshida's hand-brushed signature. Height: 21 3/4 in x width: 15 7/8 in. Condition: The sheet is lightly toned. There are no major tears. There is a small patch along the upper left quadrant. Some wear including handling marks, light creases, and small chips along the extreme edges. Some soiling to the verso, particularly along the upper left corner. The work is not framed.
