2 Warren & Alix MacKenzie Ceramic Cups - Stamped - Warren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018) and Alix MacKenzie (American, 1922-1962). Group of two studio pottery cups or chawan (tea bowls), 20th century. Stoneware, one cup with navy tenmoku glaze, rendered by Alix MacKenzie; the second cup with a mottled gray sodium carbide glaze. Each stamped along the footrim with an early Warren MacKenzie stamp. Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota. (Blue) height: 3 1/2 in x diameter: 3 1/4 in. (Gray) height: 3 1/2 in x diameter: 3 1/2 in. Condition: There are no visible cracks, losses, or restorations. Faint crazing along the interior of the bowl. Light wear to the footrim.
