20th c. Carved Ceramic Vessel Papua New Guinea - Hand-carved earthenware pottery bowl or drinking vessel from the West Sepik River region in Papua New Guinea, Oceania, early 20th century. The vessel is in the form of a hemisphere with a slightly conical bottom and deep basin. With incised, dense linear and geometric motifs along the exterior. The surface is a deep shade of umber with burnishing marks along the underside. Height: 6 1/2 in x diameter: 6 1/2 in. Condition: There are no major chips, breaks, or otherwise losses. Wear throughout consistent with age and use. Dust and debris accumulated throughout the recessed areas.
