Alexander Adriaenssen Still Life w/ Fish Painting - Alexander Adriaenssen (Antwerp, 1587-1661). Oil on panel painting depicting a still life with fish. Signed along the lower left. Adriaenssen was a Flemish Baroque painter who specialized in still lives of fish and game. A collection of his works are held in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Unframed; height: 11 1/2 in x width: 15 3/4 in. Framed; height: 18 1/2 in x width: 22 3/4 in x depth: 1 1/2 in. Condition: There is a thick varnish making small areas of possible in-painting or restoration difficult to discern. However, under UV light, there are areas of inpainting visible along the extreme edges, just below the head of the fish that extends off the table, and just above the tallest fin of the cut fish on the left. There are small losses to the paint layer, most noticeable in the upper left corner and the upper right quadrant on the wall of the painting. There are small areas that are beginning to 'buckle' outwards in the background of the painting, giving the potential for further small losses; the worst of these along the loss in the upper right quadrant. Along the lower left corner there is a crack that extends from the corner, runs to the right for approx. 2 inches, then extends down to the bottom edge of the panel. Evidence of repair to this crack under UV light. There are small losses to the extreme edges and recto of the panel, only visible from the recto. There is some warping to the panel. Light wear to the frame.
