Boys' Initiation Mask N'Tomo Bambara Style - N'tomo boys' initiation mask. Carved wood with metal fittings. N'tomo masks are used by the Bambara people of West Africa. Provenance: From the distinguished collection of the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN - proceeds from this sale will benefit their mission. Height: 22 in x width: 9 in x depth: 6 in. Walker Condition: There are no major breaks, losses, or dents. The metal components are secure, excluding the bands along the vertical posts, which are slightly loose. There is dirt/dust accrued throughout the recessed areas. There is a network of small white accretions throughout, particularly along the interior. There are several labels affixed to the interior of the mask.
