Japanese Calligraphy Screen with Gao Shitan Poem - One large two panel Japanese ink on paper calligraphy screen. Translated the text reads, ”Mountains and rivers, one color stretching three thousand li, I lean against the building [waiting] for the wine’s strength to disappear.” This is a poem by the poet Gao Shitan (d. 1146). It conjures the image of a drunken poet, leaning against a pavilion in the wilderness, looking out over an unbroken stretch of mountains. The back with a patterned medallion decoration.
