Chinese Tonkin Gilt Bronze Censer
17th/18th c. Chinese Tonkin tripod gilt bronze censer. The compressed body of lobed form with Buddhist lion-head handles. Decorated with cartouches depicting floral motifs along the sides. This type of metal ware was originally for the household decoration of wealthy staff and merchants of the East India Company.
Height: 3 1/2 in x diameter: 4 in. Weight: 435 g.
Condition: The item is in generally fair condition. Structurally stable and sturdy. Wear and some erosion throughout. Dust collected to the interior. Minute dents throughout. There are white accretions to the recessed areas, most likely old polish. To the underside, there is adhesive residue. No visible sign of restoration when inspected under UV light.
