Mughal Composite Camel Drawing
Mughal drawing in pencil, watercolor, and ink, with gold foil accents throughout depicting a composite camel comprised of figures and creatures interwoven. A demonic fanged figure leads the camel while a winged angelic figure, Peri, sits atop it playing a string instrument. Likely 19th century.
Keywords: India, Islamic, Deccan.
Sight; height: 13 in x width: 9 in. Framed; height: 17 1/2 in x width: 13 1/2 in.
Condition: The drawing is in good condition with no major tears, creases, or visible losses. The paper is toned. There is a horizontal impression to the lower part of the painting, most likely from the verso. There is a light green accretion to the paper along the lower right corner. No visible sign of restoration under UV light. It is framed under plexiglass. Not inspected out of frame. Light wear to the frame.
