Kenneth Callahan ”Tranquil Sea” Painting - Kenneth Callahan (American, 1905-1986). Tempera and oil on paper painting depicting an abstract composition. Signed along the lower right. Callahan was a largely self-taught artist who was recognized early on and whose work was included in the first Whitney Biennial. He was identified as one of the Northwest Mystics along with Guy Anderson, Morris Graves, and Mark Tobey who all shared a muted palette and an interest in Asian aesthetics.
