Rare Antique Akan Gold Dust Casket / Container
AN ANTIQUE AKAN GOLD DUST CASKET OR CONTAINER, Ashanti, Ghana, probably 19th century - possibly earlier, Kuduo, cast brass Ashanti. A relatively rare example of a cast brass storage casket, intended to hold valuables including gold dust which, together with slaves, formed the bedrock of the nation's wealth and acted as the main medium of exchange. Approx. 12" Tall This antiquarian truly enjoyed the treasures collected as well as world travel, humanitarianism, and missionary work. This monumental Central Florida collection compiled in their lifetime of art and cultural touchstones is presented in this and many more future sales.
