Contains several works that were first printed here from the manuscript of Rabbi Betzalel Ashkenazi: Rosh and Ra'avad commentary on Tractate Tamid; “Tosfot HaRosh” on Chapter Meshuach Milchama and Chapter Egla Arufa, Tractates Horayot, Kinim and Midot; Ritva commentary on Chapter Chelek; commentary of Rabbi David Bonfid [disciple of the Ramban] on Chapter Arba Mitot. [The commentary attributed here to the Ra'avad is byan Ashkenazi Torah scholar; the commentary attributed to the Ritva is by Rabbi David Bonfid]. Fine copy with exceptionally wide margins. The Chida writes of the rarity of this edition already at time of printing (in his book Sha'ar Yosef, Horayot, Leaf 3, 1): ”I saw the tosfot of the Rosh… and when passing through Germany I saw the printing from Prague, and even one cannot be found in each city”. Missing title page.  Rabbi Yaakov Shemesh (Deceased 1785, Otzar HaRabbanim 9960), served as Rabbi of the Kloiz, Rosh Yeshiva and Av Beit Din in Frankfurt am Main. Although he was offered position as Rabbi of Wurtzburg, Rabbi Shemesh declined, remaining in Frankfurt. Rabbi Shemesh was the fourth Rabbi to sign the letter of the Frankfurt Rabbis regarding the famous Get of Kliva. The Ba’al HaHafla’ah, Rabbi Pinchas HaLevi Horowitz served as Rabbi at the time of Rabbi Shemesh’s tenure.
