'Teshuvot HaRamah' (Rabbi Meir Abulafia), chapter 240-309, 32 pages. Rabbi Nissin Zerachya Azulay (1780-1836) was born in Jerusalem to Rabbi Avraham, son of the Chida, and learned in Livorno. Served as Av-Beit-Din of Magenza near Izmir and Rabbi Chaim Palagi who knew him at the time refers to him as the ”the Rabbi, the pious and holy one”. As of 1826 served as dayan in Safed. Was killed in the earthquake. When he was found in the ruins in his Talith and Tefilin, he died saying that he is that last reincarnation of Assa the Cripple, King of Judea. His writings and the writing of the Chida on Sefer Ha-Zohar were lost in the rubbles. [Up till now it was known that Rabbi Nissin Zerchaya arrived in Safed in 1830 – by the response herewith it seems that he arrived in 1826]. רבי נחום אתרוג (תר”כ - י”ט בחשון תרצ”ח). היה ראב”ד עדת האשכנזים בצפת, ראש ישיבות ”הרידב”ז - תורת ארץ ישראל” ו”חתם סופר” בצפת, וממונה ראשי מטעם כולל רומניה. לאחר עליית הרידב”ז לארץ ישראל בשנת תרס”ה, ייסד בה את ישיבת ”תורת ארץ ישראל” עם כמאה תלמידים, ורבי נחום היה מראשי הישיבה. במקביל שימש רבי נחום גם כר”מ בישיבת ”חתם סופר” שעמדה בנשיאות רבי יצחק לייב סופר בנו של רבי אברהם שמואל בנימין סופר בעל הכתב סופר. הגאון הצדיק רבי שמואל העליר [תקמ”ו-תרמ”ד] - אב”ד צפת, גאון וחסיד. גדל בנעוריו בבית החוזה מלובלין, התברך מפי קדשו פעמים רבות, ואף זכה להיות מאוכלי שלחנו בליל הסדר. עלה בעצתו לארץ הקודש בשנות התק”ע. כיהן כרבה האשכנזי של צפת במשך ששים שנה. נודע כבקי עצום ברפואה ורוקחות, והביא רפואה ומזור ליהודי צפת.
