When his father Rabbi Simcha Bunim died in 1926, Rabbi Shmuel Ehrenfeld was appointed Rabbi of the city, thus becoming the seventh rabbi in his family on the throne of this rabbinate. Appointed as the president of the seven communities, and is considered one of the most important Torah scholars in Austria. With the invasion of the Nazis in 1938, he came to the USA with his family and founded the yeshiva ”Mattersdorf”. He republished the books of his great ancestors. Some of his Hiddushim were printed under the name ”Shem Me'Shmuel”. On his initiative, the Matersdorf neighborhood in Jerusalem was built. He died on the 2nd of Shavuot 1980 and was buried on Mount Ha'Menuhot.
