In his younger years, he was a talmid of the 'Mahara”m B'Rebbi' of Preshburg. He then traveled to Pozna and joined the Yeshiva of Yosef HaTzadik, the son-in-law of the Noda B'Yehuda, who showed him a lot of affection and gifted him with the shtreimel and bekeshe of the Noda b'Yehuda (sefer Ha'Michtav Ha'Rishon). He was AB”D for many years in Almash and then became Rav in Bucharest, Romania. After a short time (1830), he was appointed Rav in Mattersdorf after the passing of Rabbi Simcha Bunim Eiger (1829), a brother of Rabbi Akiva Eiger. In 1835, a bitter dispute tore apart the Kehila in Mattersdorf. The Chasam Sofer sided with Ha'Gaon Rabbi Meir Almasher. However, he was forced to leave the city and joined his son-in-law, the Menichas Asher, in Tchenger. A few bits of moth damage, old binding, stains, title page and a few other pages are professionally repaired, overall good condition.
