Harav Binyamin Wolf Lev (1777-1851), Av Beis Din of Verbov and author of Shaarei Torah, was the son of the Shemen Rokeach. An extraordinary genius admired by all the great rabbinim of his times as attested in the approbations to his Sefer Shaarei torah ( Vienna, 1821) in which he is praised effusively by the great sages including Rabbi Akiva Eiger, the Chasam Sofer, Maharam Bennet, Rabbi Yakov miLisah (Chavas Daas- Nesivos haMishpat) Rabbi Efraim Zalman Margolius (Beis Efraim) and others, authored many sefarim and is renowned for his masterpiece sefer Shaarei Torah in which he comprehensively discusses and analysis fundamental Talmudic concepts . There were two world-famous yeshivos in Hungary in those times. The first was the Chasam Sofer’s yeshivah in Pressburg, and the second was the Shaarei Torah’s yeshivah in Verbov, which produced the authors of Machaneh Chaim and Kol Aryeh, Mahariatz, and many others.
