Full of long and impressive glosses from the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Freund, Rabbi of Prague A complete copy of Sefer Turei Even, first edition. Written R. Aryeh Leib Ginsburg (1695-1785), commonly known as the “Sha’agas Aryeh” after his magnum opus responsa work entitled Shaagas Ayreh. Turei Even contains novellae on tractates Rosh Hashanah, Chagigah and Megillah. A most fundamental and sought after work, and has been reprinted dozens of times ever since its release. The Shaagas Aryeh merited a very long life. According to legend, at the age of 90, a bookcase fell on him, covering him with books. His students were able to rescue him after an hour or so, and he related to them that he had been covered by the books of the authors with whom he had quarreled. He had asked forgiveness from all of them and they all complied - except for one, R. Mordecai Yoffe (known as the Levush) who refused. A short time later, he passed away. Rabbi Shmuel Freund was a disciple of the Baruch Taam and served as Rosh Av Beis Din and Dayan of Prague. He fought vigorously against the Enlightenment movement, and published various material on the matter. Rabbi Shmuel authored many important sefarim, including Zerah Kodesh on the Mishnah, Kessem Paz on tractate Avos, as well as many others.
