His father was Rabbi Yitzchak Isak Kahana was the Av Beit Din in Zsadány and his father-in-law was Rabbi Yitzchak Isak Blicher. Rabbi Kahana studied under his father and father-in-law, and was also a student of Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Manheimer and Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfreid, author of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. Rabbi Kahana served as the rabbi in Hernad-Zsadány, Bonyhád, and Deutschkreuz, and from 1932 was the Av Beit Din of Ungvar.
