Document Signed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Alter son of the 'Sfat Emet' of Gur and Rabbi Reuven Yehudah Neufeld - Document Signed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Alter son of the 'Sfat Emet' of Gur and Rabbi Reuven Yehudah Neufeld Rabbi Menachem Mendel Alter (1878-1942) was the youngest son of the 'Sfat Emet' of Gur, and one of the leaders of Polish Jewry between the wars. He was the chairman of the Agudat Rabbanim of Poland and a member of the Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah of Agudat Yisrael. At the time of the Holocaust, he was one of the leaders of the ultra-Orthodox population in the Warsaw Ghetto. He was killed together with his family in the Treblinka extermination camp. Rabbi Reuven Yehudah Neufeld (1869-killed in the Holocaust) was av”d of Nowy Dwór, near Warsaw. He studied by prominent Polish rabbanim. He died in sanctification of G-d’s name in the Warsaw ghetto.
