After the Holocaust, the elders of the Slonim Chassidic community approached him and wished to appoint him as Rebbe but he refused and was active in appointing his friend Rebbe Mordechai Chaim Slonim. Only after the death of Rebbe Mottel Slonimer in 1954, did Rabbi Avraham agree to head the community [when he was already 65 years old]. He then moved to Jerusalem, and led the Chassidic community for 27 years.
