Amsterdam 1786. Authored by R’ Yitzchak Turkheim. Eulogy on the passing of the Righteous Rabbi Shaul HaLevi Av Bet Din and Ramosh Yeshiva in The Hague. Rabbi Shaul HaLevi zt”l, author of ‘Binyan Shaul’ served as the head of Bet Din and Rosh Yeshiva in The Hague, Holland, during the years 1748-1785. Together with his famed brother-in-law Rabbi Shaul of Amsterdam, author of Binyan Ariel, he raised the banner of Torah and Judaism in the country of Holland. Rabbi Shaul HaLevi passed away over two hundred years ago on 25 Iyar 1785 and left no descendants. He is buried in the old cemetery in The Hague. His burial place is recognized as an opportune place of prayer, and many prayers at his gravesite have been fulfilled. Rabbi Shaul was greatly lauded by Torah luminaries of his generation. Every year, for his Jahrzeit, the Jews of Holland flock to his grave and pray there. Interestingly also Belz Chassidim organize every year a delegation led by Chassidim and pious persons. Importantly, the eulogy contains an early reference in Hebrew to the American city of Philadelphia: ”it is possible for God... to arrange it so that, while it is morning in the East Indian city of Surat, it would be evening in the American city of Philadelphia...” Amsterdam 1786.
