Signature of the Ba'al Mareh Yechezkel - The name Yechezkel in Atbash cipher was written Like the Mareh Yechezkel used to write his name Harav Yechezkel Panet, author of Mareh Yechezkel, Av Beis Din of Karlsburg and father of Harav Menachem Mendel, Av Beis Din of of Deyzh, known as the first spreader of Chassidus in Transylvania, and one of the greatest Gedolei HaChassidus. He was also renowned due to one of his writings included in his answers (Mareh Yechezkel, section 104) in which he describes the greatness of the founders of the Chassidus, in the nigleh and Amal HaTorah, and he defers the claims of the misnagdim that mocked the Torah greatness of these tzaddikim. Furthermore, he defines there the fundamentals of the Chassidus in a clear way. It is said that Harav Chaim of Tzanz used to ritually learn this writing together with his chassidim at fixed intervals. Harav Yechezkel learned Torah benigleh from the Baruch Taam, Harav Shmuel Landau, the son of the Noda B'Yehuda, and his student Harav Elazar Fleckeles, Baal Teshuvah Me'ahava. His ways in chassidus were imparted to him by Harav Menachem Mendel of Riminov, the Chozeh of Lublin, and the Maggid of Kozhnitz, until he was recognized as one of the most special scholars in his generation, by chassidim and misnagdim as one. He was known for his messirus nefesh to redeem agunos, and it has been testified that two hundred agunos were redeemed by him. In addition, the front page boasts the signature of his son Harav Chaim Betzalel, Av Beis Din of Tasnad, author of the sefer Yam Harachav, and who filled in for his father in the Rabbinate and was known for his Amal HaTorah, and his opponency against those that sought to destroy the Jewish religion. On his matzeivah is written ”..Moreinu, the great gaon and tzaddik, Yerei Elokim, proficient in the shas and poskim, to reveal the halachos he dived into the depth of the halacha, and gathered his writings, to distribute to Yaakov his sefer Yam Harachav, although he suffered yissurim, but out of love, days and nights he studied the Torah, his mouth would admonish, and he would instruct his talmidim, he strengthened himself to oppose those who wished to destroy the Jewish heritage, he lead his kehillah 40 years byirah and daas…”
