Under Harav Yisrael’s leadership, the Chortkov Chassidus blossomed and became one of the most venerated Chassidic courts in all of Galicia. In his early youth, Harav Yisrael mastered Shas and Poskim and was regarded as a genius fluent in the works of the Rishonim and Achronim. Contemporary illustrious sages as the Kochav Mi’Yaakov and Maharsham would travel to his Holy Court in Chortkov where they basked in the wisdom of his Torah and Chassidus. Shu”t Beis Shlomo by Harav Shlomo Drimmer, Av Beis Din of Scala, includes a responsa that Harav Yisrael of Chortkov authored at the age of fourteen!
