Abraham Berlin, German Talmudist; born 1707, probably at Berlin; died 1749 at Fuerth. He was a pupil of R. Jacob ha-Kohen, author of ”Shev Ya'akov, ” and later (not after 1734) settled at Fuerth, where he lived as a well-to-do private citizen. Of his seven works the following were published posthumously: ”Be'er Ya'akov” (Well of Jacob), a selection of responsa, with an appendix, on the terminology of the Talmud, published by his brother Isaac and his son Abraham, and edited by R. Isaac b. Meir of Pfalzburg and Fuerth, 1767; and ”Zikron Ya'akov” (Memory of Jacob), a homiletic commentary on the Pentateuch (ib. 1769). Rabbi Meir Eisenstadt - Mahara”m A”sh [1670-1744] was one of the rabbinic leaders of his generation, known by the name of this book, as ”the author of Panim Meirot.” He was a relative of the Sha”ch's, and studied under the Magen Avraham in his youth. He was a rabbi in a number of prominent communities, and was appointed rabbi of Eisenstadt and ”The Seven Communities” in 1717. Students came from near and far to the large yeshivah he established. His primary disciple was Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschütz, who was an orphan; the Mahara”m A”sh raised him as a son and as a disciple. Various sizes, Stefansky, Sifrei Yesod 309. Overall fine condition.
