He was a Chassid of both the Admor of Belz and the Admor of Shinowa. He was known for his emotional prayers and sermons and was an avid fighter against those wanting to uproot religion. Under his guidance his yeshiva numbered more than five hundred students from across the country. His novellae were brought to print by his disciple and nephew, the Vayechi Yosef of Puppa.
